Day 1 Carcassonne

Arrival to Carcassonne and transfer to your hotel.
Exclusive guided tour to discover the Counts castle, battlements, the St Nazaire cathedral, etc. Free time in the fortress before driving to your hotel.
 
Dinner and accommodation.


Driving along the charming roads of Minervois region, reach Minerve, one of the most beautiful villages in France. Regional lunch. The city was marked by the Crusade against the Cathars.
Drive to Beziers and enjoy a private boat trip on the Canal du Midi during which you will discover the locks of Fonseranes and the tunnel of Malpas, the 2 main engineering works of this UNESCO World Heritage site, dating back to the 17th century.
 
To complete the day, meet a winegrower in his chateau and experience a wine tasting.

Drive back to Carcassonne.

Day2 Minerve and Canal du Midi

Day 3 Cathars Castles

 
Option 1 : Queribus & Peyrepertuse:

Drive along the Aude Valley to reach the so-called “citadels of Vertigo”. Built on a rocky peak Queribus overhangs the plain of the Roussillon, the Corbieres Mountains, Cucugnan and Maury.
Visit this authentic Cathar castle which was the last place to resist during the crusade. Local lunch in Cucugnan.
Then, with your guide, drive to Peyrepertuse fortress, the most impressive one.
End the day with a Maury naturally sweet wine tasting. Drive back to Carcassonne and overnight.
 
Option 2 : day tour to Mirepoix – Montsegur
 
On the way, first stop in Mirepoix, a fortified city that kept its medieval galleries and its covered market. Then, visit Montsegur Castle, famous for the Cathar Crusade.
Regional lunch.
In the afternoon, in Puivert castle discover the magnificent medieval sculptures representing musicians and troubadours. Poets used to meet in this castle till the 14th century.
Drive back to Carcassonne and overnight in the medieval city.

Stop at a local chateau and experience the passion driving this family estate. Learn more about the Languedocian terroir and wine-making secrets with a fascinating wine-tasting session with our winemaker.
Walk through vineyards before indulging in an initiation to Languedocian specialties at the winery and enjoy a picnic in the vineyards or along the Canal du Midi.

Near Narbonne, visit the Cistercian abbey of Fontfroide. This private abbey is interesting by the mix of the medieval architecture and modern art.

Drive to Pézenas and accommodation in a former 18th century private mansion.

Day 5 Pezenas and the Thau saltwater Lagoon

 
Optional: Discover the traditional gold-leaf gilding in a craftsman workshop before leaving Pezenas.
 
Drive to the saltwater lagoon of Thau and enjoy a menu composed of oysters and mussels from the local producer.
 
In the afternoon, private boat tour on the saltwater lagoon to discover the oyster productions and beautiful views on nearby villages.
To end the afternoon, private visit and wine tasting Chateau Aumelas le bas. The story of Château-Bas begins in the fourteenth century. The d’Albenas family has owned the castle for several centuries. This soil enjoys a very specific climate, that is ideal for an optimum maturation. The grapes are grown by hand, according to organic agriculture rules, to preserve the biodiversity within the vineyards.
 
Drive to the Saltwater lagoon of Thau and accommodation and dinner.

Drive to the bay of Paulille. Discover the local vineyards during a Canoe tour or on a stand-up paddle boarding. Wine tasting and lunch in the restaurant.
 
Enjoy a walk on the port of Collioure and local food shops: discover anchovies, Croquant with almonds, olive oil…

Dinner and night in Collioure or around.

Day 7 Back to the Middle Ages : St Michel de Cuxa and St Martin du Canigou

Walk up to the St Martin de Canigou Abbey : a magnificient walk through the pyrenee Landscape, following ths former way of pilgrims. Private visit of the Romanesque abbey.

Local food will be discovered dring a lunch in a restaurant in Villefranche de Conflent or in a village around.

Walk into this fortified place by Vauban and discover arts and crafts, before driving to St Michel de Cuxa abbey, one of the oldest Romanesque abbeys in Catalonia.
 
Back to the hotel.

Ceret is a typical village at the bottom of the Pyrenees, wellknown as a modern art place. During the 1930s and 40s, many artists found a refuge and developped theur art. among them, Picasso, Dali, Soustine... All of them painted or created in Ceret. part of their Art is to be seen in the Modern Art Museum in the village.
 
Other activities available in Ceret: Hiking, paraglider, Canyoning, mountain activities.
