In the morning, meet your guide and drive along the Pyrenees to reach the priory of Serrabona that means “the Generous range” or “Good Mountain” in Catalan. Built during the 9th century, this beautiful jewel of the Catalan Romanesque style architecture used to be a parish church and a priory for Augustine monks.
But at the end of the Middle Ages, the priory starts to enter in a slow and long decline and the end of its great power.
Discover its spectacular gallery- rood screen sculpted with many Romanesque decorations. Drive to Villefranche de Conflent.
Lunch : Lunch in Villefranche de Conflent.
In the afternoon, discover Villefranche de Conflent. This little village was fortified by Vauban, the famous military engineer of King Louis 14th.
Today this charming place is well-known for its Romanesque style architecture and its art and craft activity.
Importantly and strategically located, Villefranche was protecting the entrance to the Cerdagne County. Nowadays, the village is protected by the Liberia fortress and lives quiet and enjoyable days.
Then drive to St Michel de Cuxa, an abbey built during the 9th century and still inhabited by Cistercian monks. A real marvel of Romanesque Art.
